Bolesławiec Ceramics with a Centuries-Old History
Bolesławiec ceramics, also known as porcelain, boasts a centuries-old tradition. High-quality clay deposits were discovered near Bolesławiec as early as the 14th century. Known as earthen glaze, it is characterized by a high content of aluminum and silicon oxides. The fired clay produces brown-colored vessels, earning the name "brown ceramics." Due to their high quality, Bolesławiec products quickly gained popularity in Poland, Prussia, Russia, and other European countries.
The intensive development of ceramic production in Bolesławiec dates back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. At that time, master Johann Gottlieb Altmann was the first to use feldspar glaze instead of the commonly used lead glaze. He was also a pioneer in producing vessels from white clay, previously used exclusively for decorative overlays. In the second half of the 19th century, due to the growing popularity of porcelain, white clay began to be used more frequently.
Bolesławiec Ceramics Decorated with the Stamping Method
In the second half of the 19th century, a new method of decorating Bolesławiec ceramics, known as the stamping method, became widespread. This involves manually applying patterns to the surface of vessels using specially shaped stamps, often made from sea sponge. More intricate elements are painted with brushes. Initially, simple motifs such as dots appeared on the products, but over time, more elaborate patterns were introduced.
At our manufactory, all ceramic products are hand-decorated using the stamping method. This ensures that each vessel created by our employees is unique. We use eco-friendly paints for decoration, which are safe for people and the environment. At the same time, our ceramic products stand out for their excellent usability – most are suitable for use in microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers.
